“The French Connection” program, under the direction of guest conductor, Don Appert, includes delightful works by 19th century French composers: the well-known Saint-Saëns and the lesser known Magnard. Although not from France, Beethoven’s French connection is that he was a great admirer of Napoleon. The three compositions on the concert also were written by each of the composers while in their 20s.
Ludwig van Beethoven: Coriolan Overture, Op. 62
Albéric Magnard: Suite in Ancient Style, Op. 2
Camille Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 2 in A minor, Op. 55
